ENNIS, Texas (AP) — Points leader Antron Brown took the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel on Saturday in the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals.
The defending season champion's Friday night performance of 3.682 seconds at 330.55 mph was enough to secure the No. 1 spot. He broke the Texas Motorplex time record.
"We've been racing good in the Countdown but we haven't been getting those qualifying points like we need to," said Brown, a six-time winner this year. "A lot of these teams have been racking up on us. To come here and to qualify the way we have has been phenomenal. We just hope that can carry over to race day. That's where all the points are at. Right now, I couldn't be happier for my whole team."
Robert Hight topped the Funny Car field, Jason Line was the fastest in Pro Stock, and Jerry Savoie took the No. 1 spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the fourth race in the six-event NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Hight pushed his Chevy Camaro SS to a 3.839 at a 332.02, also on Friday. His time was the best in NHRA history and a Texas Motorplex track record. Line had a Saturday run of 6.568 at 210.34 in his Chevy Camaro, and Savoie ran a 6.805 at 197.31 on a Suzuki.
