JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Reese Hannon threw four touchdowns passes and Furman snapped a nine-game losing streak, its longest since 1955, by beating East Tennessee State 52-7 on Saturday.
Hannon came in with three straight games of 300 yards passing but left after going 16 of 18 for 267 yards as the Paladins (1-6, 1-3 Southern) were able to grind out 198 yards on the ground after coming in averaging just 88.
Furman rolled to a 28-0 lead, all the scores coming on Hannon touchdown passes, including two to Andrej Suttles of 28 and 56 yards. Hannon's 16 completions moved him to the top of the school's career list with 574.
The Paladins scored on their first eight possessions. They had 511 yards total offense while holding the Buccaneers (2-4, 1-4) to 210.
ETSU scored its only touchdown with 1:25 remaining in losing its fourth consecutive game.
