GRETNA, La. (AP) — A 21-year-old New Orleans man accused of shooting an innocent bystander at a block party in Kenner six years ago has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter.

As part of Wednesday's plea agreement, The New Orleans Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/2bpOr30) Charles Lathers will serve a 20-year prison sentence, with credit for the time he has spent in jail since his arrest in the fatal shooting of Terrance Augustine in June 2010.

Lathers was facing the possibility of life without the chance of parole if he had been tried and convicted on the second-degree murder charge.
