TOOELE — A grass fire caused part of 1000 North to close in Tooele Monday morning, officials said.
The road was closed in both directions from 300 East to 500 East around 10:40 a.m. The area was cleared around 12:15 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation. There were short delays in the area.
Tooele City Fire Chief Bucky Whitehouse said when they arrived on scene, the fire was about one acre, but it later expanded to about 12 acres. Juveniles were reported to have fled the area, and an investigation is currently underway.
“Right now we're calling the fire out, however it still is an active investigation,” he said.
He said all evidence at this point leads them to believe it was an accidental fire that was human caused.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
