RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — After conflicting reports earlier in the day, the U.S. Olympic Committee says Ryan Lochte (LAHK'-tee) and three other American swimmers were robbed by armed men who stopped their taxi in Rio. USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky says Lochte and the others left the French Olympic team's hospitality house early today in a taxi headed for the athletes' village. He says the taxi was stopped by individuals posing as police officers who demanded the athletes' money.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — As the 10th day of the Olympics continues in Rio, a check of the medal board shows the U.S. on top with 60. Broken down, Team USA has won 24 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze. China is second with 41 medals overall while Britain has 30.
MIAMI (AP) — The Marlins have placed Giancarlo Stanton and left-hander Adam Conley on the disabled list. Stanton hurt his groin trying to stretch a single into a double and was tagged out at second base yesterday. Conley says he has been pitching with soreness in his pitching hand that has been getting worse.
CHICAGO (AP) — Tonight's baseball game has the Cubs playing host to the Cardinals. Chicago won the first two games of the four-game series before losing yesterday. The Cubs start the game with a 13-game lead over the Cardinals in the National League Central.
SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Golfer Robert Allenby of Australia failed to make the cut in the PGA's John Deere Classic on Friday. Now, according to police reports, Allenby was arrested outside a casino in Rock Island, Illinois, early yesterday morning. He was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.
