Tonya Papanikolas Reporting Some new information may shed some light on what happened inside a Bountiful condo. Police discovered a body in a freezer in the home yesterday.
Bountiful Police have been looking for a 2001 or 2002 blue Toyota Corolla, that they say was stolen. A new attempt to locate the car has been made, shedding some light on the investigation and putting a lot of suspicion on the son who lived there.
Along with the car, police are looking for 18-year old Jeremy Hauck. He is listed as a person of interest in an ongoing homicide investigation. The bulletin advises officers to use caution when dealing with him, because he may be suicidal. The bulletin has been issued in Utah, Washington and Montana. It also says he may be armed with a 223 semi-automatic rifle.
Investigators found two empty boxes of ammunition in the condo, that would be consistent with that rifle. Such a weapon was nowhere to be found in the home.
Someone from the medical examiner's office removed the freezer, with the body still inside, from the condo today. They will let the body thaw out in their office with a more controlled environment. Late Thursday, police confirmed the body was that of a woman.
Police say the entire crime is unusual.
Lt. Randy Pickett, Bountiful Police: "That's what all the investigators who have shown up on scene have said, that this is definitely different.
That body was in the freezer for at least eight hours. It's taken a lot longer than expected to thaw out. Police say tomorrow is the earliest they'll be able to get a positive ID on the body and do an autopsy.
The body was discovered during a check-up visit on a Bountiful woman and her son. 50-year-old Laura Hauck and her 18-year-old son Jeremy had not been seen since Friday morning. When family members couldn't get a hold of them over the weekend, they called police on Monday.
Lt. Randy Pickett, Bountiful Police Dept.: "So officers meet (the family) here. They found no evidence of forced entry. A second floor window was open, and they go inside the house."
The body was found in the freezer in a fetal position with the back and legs visible. The legs were shaved, but police don't want to use that to assume it was a woman.
