A 2 ½-year-old boy is in serious condition this afternoon after he was run over by a lawn mower.
Mapleton police say the accident happened around noon. They say the little boy suffered serious injuries to his left leg when a riding lawn mower ran over him.
Neighbors tell us a 12-year-old boy was mowing the lawn when his little brother ran up to the mower, tripped, and his leg went underneath the mower.
"I guess the bottom part of one of his legs was chewed up pretty good. It got under the mower," said Nicole Hill, who lives across the street.
Her son Caleb tried to console the boy who was mowing the lawn.
"[I told him] that he'd be OK. That it wasn't his fault," Caleb said.
The toddler was treated at the scene by paramedics and then airlifted to Primary Children's Medical Center in serious condition. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
