BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Elmore County officials say two bodies were recovered from the Boise River on Saturday after a car crashed into the Middle Fork. Four other people were in the vehicle but survived the crash.

Joshua Thompson, who was the father of one of the victims, told KTVB-TV (https://is.gd/Hic6rK ) the accident happened on the way back to their camp site from a trip to a hot springs. Thompson says the road alongside the river was treacherous and washed out.

He says the driver of the vehicle was distracted by two dogs that were fighting in the car. The car flipped over a 40-foot cliff and into the river. In a few seconds, their lives were turned upside down.

Authorities say a 15-year-old boy, who was Thompson's son, and a 21-year-old woman were killed.

Officials are still investigating the crash.
