CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Gannett Co. and Tribune Co. said Tuesday that they've increased their ownership stakes in online job recruitment site CareerBuilder to 42.5%, while allowing McClatchy Co. to retain 15% of the stake it acquired when it purchased Knight Ridder earlier this year. Gannett and Tribune held the right to buy out Knight Ridder's portion of CareerBuilder, as well as two other online ventures, ShopLocal.com and Topix.net, if Knight Ridder was ever sold. Gannett and Tribune agreed to pay McClatchy about $142 million to increase their stakes in all three online entities. Gannett and Tribune will own 42.5 of ShopLocal.com, and 31.9% of Topix.net. The deal values CareerBuilder at $1.55 billion, ShopLocal.com at $85 million and Topix.net at $72 million.
