SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A national sorority is suing one of its local chapters at the University of Utah for refusing to turn over the title to its house following the chapter's disbandment.
The national Delta Delta Delta sorority has filed a lawsuit in Third District Court claiming that its Theta Phi chapter at the University of Utah has refused to hand over the house it has owned since 1939.
The Delta Delta Delta National Executive Board closed the University of Utah chapter earlier this year, citing recruitment and financial problems. The Tri-Delta sorority was also the University of Utah's smallest, with fewer than 30 members.
The house is owned by a corporation created by the Theta Phi chapter. Corporation officials say they want to seel the house and reinvest the money into the community instead of sending it to national headquarters.
