SALT LAKE CITY — A new app is helping skiers and snowboarders stay better connected with their friends on the slopes, and it recently expanded its service to several Utah ski resorts.
Since its launch in December, SkiLynx has been hailed by Outside Magazine as "the best new ski app for keeping track of your friends on the hill." The app premiered at ski resorts in California, but recently expanded to include coverage for top resorts in Colorado and Utah as well, and can now be used by skiers at Park City and Snowbird.
"We're really excited to bring SkiLynx to the top resorts across the U.S., enabling skiers and snowboarders in the Rockies, Tetons, Wasatch and beyond to easily find and connect with their friends on the slopes," said Sarah Stocker, co-founder of Wearlynx, Inc., the creators of SkiLynx. "We love to ski with friends and family, but everyone has different styles and speeds. SkiLynx makes it easy to stay connected with friends without interrupting your day so you're freed up to enjoy the snow."

The app allows users to track and post their ski runs, as well as connect with friends by sharing real-time locations. Fellow users can watch a friend's skiing progress live on the app's integrated resort map and can pinpoint a skier's location, making it easier to meet up on the slopes.
The app also includes smart messaging features in its group chat that includes location-aware hashtags that can pinpoint where you are, even if you aren't sure of your location.
"The one-tap message 'I'm on #here,' becomes 'I'm on Ajax Express,' when riding Ajax at Aspen, or 'meet me #here,' becomes 'meet me at base lodge' while at the base lodge," according to a Wearlynx Inc. news release.
"We continue to enhance our proprietary algorithms for SkiLynx with improved ski run and lift detection at all resorts," Wearlynx Inc. co-founder Mark Danks said. "Our algorithms automatically account for crisscrossing trails, riding up vs. skiing down, and two-way chairlifts, so you always know where you and your friends are on the mountain."
The SkiLynx 2.0 app costs $2.99 and is available on iOS. The app coverage is available for 24 ski resorts, including the two in Utah, and will expand to more in the future.
