BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Seven Louisiana schools are participating in the state's Archery in Louisiana Schools program.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the schools received archery equipment for the first time thanks to the program.
Schools receiving the equipment include St. Mary's Academy in New Orleans, Martha's Vineyard Elementary in Ponchatoula, St. Frances Cabrini School, Alma Redwine Elementary and Horseshoe Drive Elementary, all in Alexandria, and Converse High School and Meadowview Elementary in Bossier City.
Qualifying schools receive half the equipment necessary to start teaching the curriculum. Schools must then buy the remainder of the equipment necessary to complete the set.
To date, more than 40 Louisiana schools have received equipment through the program, totaling over $60,000 in equipment.
The program teaches students in grades 3-12 as part of their in-school curriculum.
