STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Jameel Warney scored a career-high 20 points with 12 rebounds as Stony Brook posted its eighth-straight win, downing UMBC 86-74 on Wednesday night.

Bryan Sekunda added a career-high 21 points and Rayshawn McGrew had 20 points and six rebounds for the Seawolves (12-4, 3-0 American East Conference) who averaged 55.4 percent shooting from the field and 85.7 percent from the line.

Sekunda sank four 3-pointers in the first half as Stony Brook took an early lead and held it on its way to a 45-33 advantage at the break.

UMBC closed the gap to trail by three, 64-61, on a 3-pointer by Jairus Lyles midway through the second half but Warney responded with a layup that sparked a 12-4 run that extended the Seawolves lead to 76-65 with 4:58 to play.

Lyles scored 24 points with six rebounds and three assists for the Retrievers (5-13, 1-2).
