WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Rifle Association says President Barack Obama's executive actions on gun control are "ripe for abuse" and lack seriousness. The president said today that Congress is being held hostage by gun rights groups. He says the administration will take steps to close loopholes that allow informal gun sales without background checks.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — A Florida college has fired a professor who claimed the 2012 massacre of children at a Connecticut elementary school was staged. Florida Atlantic University gave no reason for the dismissal of professor James Tracy. The parents of one student killed at Sandy Hook recently claimed in a Florida newspaper opinion piece that Tracy was taunting them.

BURNS, Ore. (AP) — A member of the small, armed group that has been occupying a national wildlife refuge in Oregon since the weekend says he believes federal officials have issued warrants for the arrest of five group members. Arizona rancher LaVoy Finicum, armed with a rifle, told reporters that he is one of the people who is a subject of the warrants, but he offered no details. The FBI says it's "still working on a peaceful resolution."

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Some of the first Central American families targeted by immigration authorities in recent raids have had their deportations temporarily halted. Lawyers say they've managed to temporarily stop deportation proceedings for 12 individuals from four families rounded up over the weekend. Appeals are being made to a Justice Department immigration appeals board.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean weather agency says it sees signs of an "artificial quake" near a North Korean nuclear test site. And the U.S Geological Survey measured the magnitude of the seismic activity at 5.1. The isolated regime says it plans an "important announcement."
