LEVAN, Juab County — A man was killed and state Route 28 closed for several hours following a collision between a semitruck and a dump truck Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on SR 28, a few miles south of Levan, according to Utah Highway Patrol. An empty dump truck owned by Staker Parsons was traveling south on the highway when the driver drifted off the right side of the road, UHP said. The driver over-corrected, crossed into northbound traffic and was T-boned by an oncoming semitruck.

The semitruck, owned by Badlands Trucking out of Richfield, was hauling wood chips and was badly damaged in the collision. Its driver, 56-year-old Rodric Brett Ross of Richfield*, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck was transported to the Central Valley Regional Hospital in Nephi with unknown injuries.

All of the lanes of the highway were closed most of the day as crews cleaned up the accident. One lane was reopened at around 4:30 p.m.

The reason the dump truck initially drove off the road was still being investigated Monday.

*Editor's note: This story has been corrected to show the deceased driver, Rodric Brett Ross, was driving the semitruck, not the dump truck.
