WEST VALLEY CITY — Police say it's a miracle no one was injured when a passenger pulled the emergency brake on a car traveling at high speeds on Bangerter Highway, causing the vehicle to roll early Monday morning.

The vehicle was traveling north on Bangerter Highway at 3200 South when the 22-year-old male passenger pulled the emergency brake, according to Sgt. Brandon Christiansen with the West Valley City Police Department.

Police suspect the passenger was intoxicated, Christiansen said.

The car rolled several times and hit a light pole. Neither the passenger nor the 20-year-old woman driving were injured.

"Based on what happened, it's a miracle that nobody was hurt," Christiansen said. "Their car rolled several times. An officer had actually seen the tail end of the car rolling. It ended up upside down. Luckily they weren't trapped. They were able to get out."

The man who police say pulled the emergency brake was cited for interfering with the driver. The driver was cited for speeding and other offenses, Christiansen said.
