LAS VEGAS (AP) — Utah took advantage of a disastrous start by BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl, scoring five first-quarter touchdowns on turnovers before holding on to beat the Cougars 35-28 on Saturday. No. 20 Utah romped to a 35-0 first- quarter lead in the first meeting of the rivals outside the state of Utah. BYU turned the ball over the first five times it had the ball, with freshman quarterback Tanner Mangum throwing three interceptions and fumbling once.

PRICE, Utah (AP) — A woman has died after her car went off the road in Price. KSL-TV reports that Price police say 51-year-old Jan Johnson Loveland was driving when her car veered off the right side of the road and struck a light pole. Loveland suffered fatal injuries but no one else was hurt. The crash remains under investigation.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Police say a man used what appeared to be an improvised explosive device to demand money from an Ogden credit union. The Standard-Examiner in Ogden reports the incident happened yesterday at Goldenwest Credit Union. Police say the man approached an employee. Surveillance video shows the man producing an IED. He left with cash.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal officials are planning to use infrared equipment to count wild burros in an elusive Utah herd ahead of a round-up set for next spring. The Deseret News reports the Bureau of Land Management will use body heat scanners because they tend to scatter and blend into the landscape. Officials say the herd has grown too large for the drought-parched land near Green River.
