FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Officials say two people at a Florida Panhandle hospital became patients after an SUV crashed into the emergency room's waiting area.

Fort Walton Beach Medical Center released a statement saying one person was in serious but stable condition following the Monday afternoon crash. The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://goo.gl/GxpQyE ) reports that a second person was being kept overnight for medical observation.

Ocean City-Wright Fire Department spokesman Ryan Christen says several other people sustained minor injuries, but it wasn't immediately known how many. He said at least one of the seriously injured was a hospital employee.

Christen says the SUV's driver wasn't injured. It wasn't immediately clear what cause the crash.
