LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada regents are supporting a $50 million deal that would expand UNLV's campus by 42 acres.
The board of the Nevada System of Higher Education voted Friday to approve the deal, which is expected to close at the end of the year. UNLV is supposed to come up with a plan by March for financing the project.
The parcel half a mile west of the main campus is one of the few places the landlocked campus can expand, and several regents emphasized that it was important to seize the rare opportunity.
It's still undetermined what will be built on the land. One option is to build a new stadium there, while another option is creating a campus village.
Both proposals call for space for the university, parking, stores and restaurants.
