FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A Utah woman accused of lying to police after her boyfriend allegedly beat her 2-year-old son to death over potty training has rejected a plea deal in the case.
The Ogden Standard-Examiner reports that a lawyer for 23-year-old Jasmine Bridgeman of Layton said during a Monday hearing that she wants to schedule an evidence hearing in the case instead.
It was scheduled for Jan. 7, the same day as for her 34-year-old boyfriend Joshua Schoenenberger. He is facing an aggravated murder charge in the May death of 2-year-old James Siger Jr. in May.
Prosecutors say the toddler died of internal injuries after Schoenenberger got angry and stepped on the boy because he had soiled his diaper instead of using the toilet.
Bridgeman has pleaded not guilty to one count of obstruction of justice.
