LAS VEGAS (AP) — The left engine on a British Airways Boeing 777 caught fire while the plane was preparing to take off from Las Vegas this afternoon. Passengers were forced to escape on emergency slides. McCarran International Airport reports on its official Twitter account that two passengers were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The London-bound plane was carrying 172 people.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton now says she's sorry that she used a private email account when she was secretary of state. In an interview with ABC News, the Democratic presidential candidate called her use of private email a "mistake," and says she takes responsibility. Clinton had earlier declined to express remorse.
GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) — The attorney for the Kentucky county clerk jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples is refusing to say whether she will defy the courts again. Kim Davis was released today after five days behind bars to a tumultuous welcome from thousands of supporters.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A new report has found that the rate of child deaths around the world has dropped by more than half since 1990. But it wasn't enough of a drop to reach the United Nations goal of a two-thirds reduction by 2015. Despite the decline, 16,000 children under the age of five still die every day.
KEYPORT, N.J. (AP) — On a day when temperatures surged past 90 degrees in central New Jersey, an electrical problem has forced a school district to declare a snow day. Classes were canceled today in Keyport because of a malfunctioning component at the district's elementary school. And they used a snow day to do it.
