MOSCOW (AP) — Trading on Russia's stock exchange was suspended for almost two hours on Tuesday due to technical problems.

The Moscow Exchange, which is the center of Russian financial trading, said it encountered a "technical failure" in its data center at around 3 p.m. local time.

Stocks and bonds trading resumed at around 4.50 p.m., with derivatives and foreign exchange following shortly afterward with extended trading sessions partially compensating for the lost time.

The exchange had said backup systems would be used to resume trading.

The exchange's main MICEX index was trading up by almost two percent on the day.
