EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Steve Cluley passed for 289 yards with two touchdowns and Mikal Abdul-Saboor rushed for a pair as William & Mary defeated Lafayette 34-7 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.
Abdul-Saboor, who finished with 106 yards rushing, punched through the line four straight times, scoring from the 2 as the Tribe took a 7-0 lead. Cluley hit Christian Reeves with a 52-yard scoring pass on third-and-long.
Blake Searfoss threw a scoring pass to Bobby DiPietro, the receiver's first career touchdown, pulling Lafayette to 14-7 by halftime.
The second half was all William & Mary, with a pair of field goals by Nick Dorka and touchdowns from Cluley and Abdul-Saboor.
The Lafayette student section, many wearing Brian Keller's No. 80 jersey, offered pregame tribute to Keller, a projected senior starter at tight end who was killed in a summer automobile accident. Keller's parents and siblings were in attendance.
