VICTORIA, Va. (AP) — A state historical marker is being dedicated at a Southside Virginia school that served African-Americans during the era of segregation.
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources says the marker will be dedicated Friday in recognition of the establishment in 1920 of the Lunenburg Training School. The marker also recognizes its successor at the same site, Lunenburg High School, which educated black students until county schools were desegregated in 1969.
Members of the Lunenburg High School Alumni Association are scheduled to attend the dedication, which will be in Victoria.
