PROVO — A new startup festival in Provo boasts 182 events and is drawing speakers that include Gov. Gary Herbert.
StartFEST is the successor to Beehive Startups' StartSLC, which attracted over 4,000 participants in January. This time, the event will be hosted in Provo from Aug. 31-Sept. 5.
"We were really kind of surprised and amazed by how many people were interested in the event we were putting on (in January)," said Beehive Startups founder Clint Betts. "We renamed it StartFEST because the whole goal is to have a national startup and tech event that just happens to be in Utah."
The festival has events for people working on business startups in any facet, with tracks focused on marketing, software development, funding and leadership. There will also be a $150,000 startup competition and the presentation of Beehive Awards, plus nightly concerts featuring bands such as Vanladylove, The Str!ke and Joshua James.
In addition to the governor, scheduled speakers include Larry H. Miller Group CEO Gail Miller, DOMO CEO Josh James and Freshly Picked CEO Susan Petersen. Betts said venture capitalists from Silicon Valley and Washington D.C., among other places, will attend.

"It's all about getting as many people there as possible who are interested in startups and tech," he said.
More information about the festival is available online, where people can register until Monday, with passes costing $20-$50. Betts said they plan to host the event during the first week of September every year.
