OGDEN — An Ogden chiropractor once convicted of lewdness and again accused of inappropriately touching a patient has surrendered his license and been sentenced to jail.

Michael W. Wimmer, 68, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail followed by 36 months of probation for a single count of lewdness with a prior offense, which elevates the charge to a third-degree felony.

Originally charged with forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony, Wimmer pleaded guilty to the lewdness charge as part of a plea agreement that included surrendering his chiropractic license with a promise that he will not reapply, according to court documents. Wimmer indicates on his professional profile online that he has been a chiropractor for nearly 34 years.

In the plea, Wimmer admitted to performing a lewd act "in a private place under circumstances which he should have known were likely to cause affront or alarm to another person."

Charges were filed last October after a woman reported to officers that earlier that year she was being treated by Wimmer at the Wimmer Chiropractic Center, 413 Washington Blvd., when he "grabbed and squeezed her buttocks and breasts," according to a statement from Ogden police.

Police testified in preliminary proceedings earlier this year that as many as 30 women contacted police claiming to have been inappropriately touched by Wimmer after news of the arrest became public.

In 2006, Wimmer had his license revoked for inappropriately touching a patient and making sexually suggestive remarks, according to a division report. That eventually turned into a consensual sexual relationship with the patient, the report states. Some of the sexual relations allegedly occurred during chiropractic treatment sessions. Wimmer was also ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation.

In 2009, his license was reinstated.

In 1994, Wimmer pleaded no contest to lewdness, a class A misdemeanor, for inappropriately touching another patient, the report states.
