This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

In the early 1900s after moving to the United States from Switzerland, Caspar Bachman was looking for a business opportunity. So, he started his own plumbing business. This decision turned out to be more successful than he ever could have imagined. Today the company he started, located in Ogden, is called Mike Bachman Plumbing and is now in the sixth generation of family involvement, celebrating their 100th anniversary.

Company President and CEO Mike Bachman grew up in the business, learning the ropes from his grandfather. And now both his son and grandson are involved, bringing the company into the sixth generation which is important because family-owned business remains an economic driver in the U.S., representing 90 percent of all business, including a significant portion of Fortune 500 companies.

Mike Bachman Plumbing is a full-service plumbing contractor that can service and install complete plumbing systems. Since most plumbing calls are emergency-based, they offer a 24-hour service to take care of clients no matter when they need help. They work hard to offer same-day service, regardless of what the call is about. And when they make an appointment, they will always be on time because they don't believe in making customers wait. That's why at least 85 percent of their business is return customers and why they're serving a generational customer base that's been passed down over time.

Even though they use state-of-the-art equipment at Mike Bachman Plumbing, they separate themselves on the fact they don't use an answering machine, so they can answer every call personally. Most of the team have been on board for many years because they take great care of their 13 employees.

Starting next month Mike Bachman Plumbing is looking forward to celebrating their 100th anniversary in a big way with an open house at the shop, followed by a barbecue. Mike also plans to bring his collection of antique cars as part of this extraordinary celebration.
