(AP) — A murder trial that has put Nevada's "stand your ground" law in the spotlight is underway in Reno where prosecutors are portraying an elderly man who fatally shot an unarmed trespasser as a premeditated killer. Wayne Burgarello's lawyer argues instead that the 74-year-old Sparks man acted in justified self-defense.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Trial is being postponed for a 19-year-old and a co-defendant accused of killing a Las Vegas mom in a neighborhood shootout in February. A Clark County District Court judge says too many pretrial matters remained unresolved to begin trial next Tuesday for Erich Milton Nowsch Jr. and 27-year-old co-defendant Derrick Andrews. Both have pleaded not guilty.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Immigration activists and community leaders are again demanding Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt remove the state from a federal lawsuit aiming to stop a White House proposal granting deportation reprieves to parents of U.S. citizens, in the country illegally. Nevada is among 26 states suing to stop the proposal due to take effect May 19 if not for a court injunction.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio is planning to visit Nevada at the end of the month to celebrate his birthday with the star of the TV show "Pawn Stars." A fundraising reception for the Florida senator is scheduled for May 28 at the Las Vegas home of Rick Harrison, who co-owns the famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.
