ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says her daughter, Bristol, won't marry Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer this month.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate wrote Monday on her verified Facebook account that the two said the wedding planned for May 23 will no longer be held. She didn't provide a reason.

Bristol Palin announced the engagement in March, saying in a blog post that Meyer came to Alaska to film the "Amazing America" reality show with her mother last year.

Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2011. The Kentucky native is credited with saving the lives of 36 Marines, U.S. soldiers and Afghan soldiers, providing cover for them to find their way out of a firefight with the Taliban.

Family attorney John Tiemessen didn't immediately return an email or voicemail message.
