CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — With 25,000 new jobs expected in the Charleston area during the next three years, seven colleges and universities are coming together to make sure companies have the trained workers they need.
The Post and Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1bU6HgF ) many of those new jobs will be in science and technology. The coalition will ensure degree programs offered at the institutions match the training needed for the new jobs.
The coalition is being formed under the direction of businesswoman Anita Zucker. It includes Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Clemson and the College of Charleston as well as the Medical University of South Carolina, Trident Technical College and the University of South Carolina.
College of Charleston President Glenn McConnell says the future is in collaboration among colleges and universities instead of duplicating programs.
