CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Division of Forestry is trying to reduce wildfire risks and improve water quality in forest areas in Clear Creek.

The Nevada Appeal (http://bit.ly/1F71RHp) reports that the Nevada Division of Forestry is thinning forests in the area and throughout Northern Nevada as part of a fuels reduction project.

Community Protection program coordinator for the division Ryan Shane says that too many trees in an area puts trees under stress and can result in whole forests being wiped out.

Trees that are less healthy and mature as others are being cut down and used as mulch to nourish the land.

The Clear Creek area provides a scenic route to Lake Tahoe and it is a perennial tributary with a continual flow year-round. It received three federal grants for the project.
