CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — A flip-flop-footed Jimmy Buffett dispensed advice to some Florida graduates while collecting an honorary degree for himself.
The "Margaritaville" singer addressed graduates at the University of Miami on Friday, where he was given the honorary doctorate in music.
He told graduates to see the world, do everything in moderation and to "be Santa Claus when you can."
It also marked the final graduation for UM president Donna Shalala, who is leaving the university to head the Clinton Foundation. The Miami Herald reports (http://hrld.us/1dUgUvo ) students wore buttons that said "I love Shalala."
