This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
In the early 1990s, a group of surgeons and physicians in North Davis County met because they felt their own and patients' needs weren't always being met. The group decided to pursue opening a physician-owned ambulatory, or same-day, surgery center.
They spent two years studying and looking into different options for the center, which was intended to provide a more patient-friendly alternative to the traditional hospital stay. The result of their hard work is the Davis Surgical Center. This year the center, located in Layton, is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
DaNece Fickett, facility director, says the Davis Surgical Center only performs same-day surgeries, where a patient walks in and out without staying overnight. This is beneficial because it frees hospital operating rooms for more serious cases by putting smaller cases in an ambulatory setting. It also allows patients the luxury of recovering at home, which saves healthcare dollars.
The center features operating rooms fully equipped with the most current technology. Since the facility is physician-owned, surgeons can more easily keep up with technology by purchasing the most up-to-date medical equipment. Procedures are performed by a patient's own doctor so the patient receives the same level of care he or she is accustomed to. Comfortable recovery rooms help ensure patient privacy and provide an opportunity for family members to join patients shortly after surgery.
DaNece says the Davis Surgical Center is distinguished by its patient-centered care. The staff reviews feedback carefully to discover ways to better fulfill patients' needs. And nursing and technical staff are carefully chosen for their experience and dedication to patient care.
DaNece hopes to see the Davis Surgical Center continue to grow and serve Davis County residents for years to come.
