WASHINGTON (AP) — The Nationals have acquired catcher Dan Butler from the Boston Red Sox for left-hander Danny Rosenbaum, who had Tommy John surgery in May.

Washington announced the swap of minor leaguers Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Butler, who is on Washington's 40-man roster, hit .256 during six years in the minors with the Red Sox organization. He was at Triple-A Pawtucket for most of 2014, made his major league debut in August and appeared in seven games for Boston.

Rosenbaum is rehabbing from his reconstructive elbow surgery. He was selected by Washington in the 22nd round of the 2009 amateur draft and is 34-36 with a 3.12 ERA in six minor league seasons.
