COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Brionna Jones had 23 points and a career-high 14 rebounds on Monday night as No. 14 Maryland won its inaugural Big Ten game by defeating Ohio State 87-78 in the conference opener for both teams.
Jones scored seven of Maryland's last 10 points down the stretch to help hold off the Buckeyes, who had closed to 77-73 on Cait Craft's 3-pointer with 2:43 left.
Laurin Mincy also had a double-double for the Terrapins (10-2), finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 18 points and nine rebounds, Tierney Pfirman scored 14 and Lexie Brown added 12. Maryland had a 59-37 edge on the glass.
Ameryst Alston scored 22 points and Kelsey Mitchell added 19 for the Buckeyes. Ohio State (8-5) never led in the second half after trailing 43-40 at halftime.
Maryland took its largest lead at 72-58 with 8:59 left after a 15-3 run.
