MAULDIN, S.C. (AP) — Two members of the Greenville County School District have been charged with owning and distributing child pornography, according to authorities.
Daniel Ray Archer, 55, and Christopher Mattison Smith, 28, were both charged in separate cases after an investigation by local and federal agencies, authorities told local media outlets.
Archer is on administrative leave from his job as a physical education teacher at Mauldin Middle School. Smith was recently released from Ralph Chandler Middle School.
Deputies said that they began investigating last week after two separate tips about child pornography on computers belonging to Greenville County.
Archer has been charged with four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. On his computer, deputies said they found video and images showing minor children engaged in various sex acts with adults.
Investigators also found videos and images of fully clothed students from Mauldin Middle School participating in school activities. Archer might have traded the images of local students on the Internet in exchange for child pornography, deputies said.
Smith had been viewing child pornography images on Greenville County School District equipment, deputies said. Investigators learned that he also had images of young children engaged in sex acts with other children as well as adults.
Smith faces five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. It wasn't known if the men had attorneys.
