SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Symphony is kicking off a free series of open-air performances in southern Utah's national parks.
The first stop is Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Capitol Reef.
The 75-piece orchestra is set to give other performances at Arches and Canyonlands, as well as Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks.
Music Director Thierry Fischer will lead works designed to complement the soaring red rocks and canyons.
Utah Gov. Gary Herbert briefly led the orchestra Monday in a farewell performance.
The tour is sponsored by the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation, the state Legislature and the Sorenson Legacy Foundation.
Other sponsors include O.C. Tanner, Zions Bank, Questar, and Chevron.
Smaller chamber performances will also take place along the route.
The tour ends Aug. 16 in Zion National Park.
