This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Luke Kjar's (care's) competitive advantage in business has always been finding a unique niche and figuring out how to make it work for him. That's why his car dealership, Auto Source in Woods Cross, is one of the top auto dealers in Utah. As for the competitive advantage? They specialize in branded title insurance recovery vehicles.
This is a business many dealers have shied away from, but Luke loves it. He's moving around 150 cars a month. Customers are drawn to the pricing and the warranty deals he offers at Auto Source, not to mention the in-house financing in what has traditionally been a difficult sale.
The thought here is that the customer is the boss — they're the ones enabling Auto Source to succeed or fail. It's important for employees to understand that value in every transaction, so it's ingrained in the company culture.
As an additional service, Auto Source offers the option to convert your vehicle to natural gas. Luke was inspired back in 2008 when he saw the entire auto industry suffering. The cyclical problem of SUVs and big vehicles selling well in winter and hybrids in the summer was magnified 100 times or more. So, he thought about a way to expand that market. That's how the natural gas portion of Auto Source came to be, along with a second company Luke operates.
Luke won't take any cars or trucks that come with frame or engine damage. And when selling to a customer, the Auto Source team is upfront, showing where the damage occurred and how it's been repaired. Customers rely on the honest communication, and repair shops across the country are connected with Luke to offer repairs.
Auto Source is located on four acres in a 40,000 square foot building in Woods Cross. They're selling around 1,500 cars per year, and customers end up saving 30 to 40 percent off vehicle price. Luke wants customers to feel taken care of, so the warranty deals are something you won't believe, with coverage for up to four years.
