BAGHDAD (AP) — Despite the growing threat of Sunni extremists holding large swaths of the country, minority Sunni and Kurdish lawmakers have walked out of the first session of the newly seated Iraqi legislature. They were expected to take up the formation of a new government to hold the country together. Baghdad's top envoy says his country will look for military assistance from other countries because it can't wait on help from the U.S.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea has fired two short-range projectiles into waters off its east coast. The test firings came a day after the regime rejected South Korea's proposals to reduce tensions, including the cancellation of annual drills between Seoul and Washington. On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng) visits South Korea for a summit meeting with his South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye (goon-hay).

WASHINGTON (AP) — An independent privacy and civil liberties board says the National Security Agency's massive collection of internet data is constitutional and employs "reasonable" protections of the privacy of Americans. The assessment comes from the bipartisan Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A food truck has exploded in north Philadelphia, injuring 11 people, two critically. Police say the explosion happened outside an auto body shop and a propane tank was the cause. Four of the injured are in stable condition. A fireball engulfed the truck and set a utility pole ablaze. Nearby homes and businesses weren't damaged.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The weather is not so great in the Northwest. The mercury reached 95 degrees in Portland, Oregon, today. And in Seattle, temperatures topped out at 91. Forecasters won't call one day of scorching temperatures a heat wave. A cool front is expected to arrive tomorrow.
