Adam Thomas reportingThe attention on the polygamist sect in Texas is drawing some undeserved and outdated criticism of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nita Brooks works next door to where the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) women and children are staying. "I think it's terrible. I think they all need to go back to Salt Lake," she said.

She, like some other Texans, isn't seeing the difference. "They claim to be differently, but they're not. Because to me, they're all in the same boat," Brooks said.

Matt Burdine said, "I would hope they know the difference. But some of the people around here aren't real open-minded, and so it's really easy for groups to get lumped together."

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a statement and link to an archive video of the late President Gordon B. Hinckley. In the video President Hinckley says, "This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy."
