SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington plans to spend $19 million improving a nearly 2-mile stretch of the Burke-Gilman Trail through campus.
The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports (http://bit.ly/1nHPhEk ) the work will nearly double the width of the trail near Husky Stadium, improve lighting and separating lanes for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The university says the Burke-Gilman is the most heavily used trail in the state and the UW segment is crowded with walkers and bikers.
The work is being done in phases with the goal of finishing by the time the light rail terminal at Husky Stadium opens in early 2016.
