SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Miss Cache Valley has topped a field of 48 young women to be crowned Miss Utah.
Karlie Major will represent Utah at the Miss America competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September after winning the state competition Saturday in Salt Lake City.
As Miss Utah, she will promote her platform, "Get Real: Embracing a Positive Body Image Through Media Smarts," across the state, and act as an ambassador to the Children's Miracle Network.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1p78Nj5 ) Major was awarded a $10,000 scholarship.
Ten finalists were chosen Saturday from 48 titleholders based on preliminary scores of competition over the previous three days.
In all, more than 700 young women competed in local Miss America-affiliated pageants across Utah this year.
