CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission is stepping down and another commissioner is in line to take his place.
Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Wednesday that chairman Pete Bernhard will resign effective June 30. Bernhard has served on the regulatory body since 2001 and said he wanted to step down in time for another person to take the panel through the budgeting process scheduled in advance of the 2015 legislative session.
Dr. Tony Alamo will take Bernhard's place as chairman. He's been a commissioner since 2008.
Sandoval has appointed the recently retired head of the Southern Nevada Water Authority to fill the vacancy left by the shift. Pat Mulroy is expected to start her term July 1.
Sandoval called Mulroy's leadership skills at the powerful water agency "exceptional."
