ADEL, Iowa (AP) — A former Urbandale teacher has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to having sex with two students.

Benjamin Joseph Hoffman received two 10-year sentences Friday after pleading guilty in Dallas County District Court to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

The 24-year-old former Urbandale Middle School teacher admitted he had sex with a 13-year-old girl who was a student at the middle school. He also admitted to having sex with a 14-year-old girl who was one of Hoffman's students when he was a student teacher at Norwalk Middle School.

The incidents occurred at Hoffman's West Des Moines apartment.

The prison sentences will be served concurrently. After his release, Hoffman will remain on parole for life and will be placed on the sex-offender registry.
