MENDENHALL, Miss. (AP) — The Simpson County school district is among 67 nationwide receiving grants to promote physical activity and nutrition programs.

The U.S. Department of Education is giving the district almost $500,000, the federal agency said Tuesday.

Schools getting the grants must help students meet state standards for physical education. The schools must also teach healthy eating habits and implement certain physical fitness activities.

Simpson County, with 4,100 students, is the only Mississippi district receiving a grant in Tuesday's round.
