SALT LAKE CITY — The savory scent of bacon may soon be a wake-up call for those with a new iPhone accessory.
Oscar Meyer introduced its Wake Up & Smell the Bacon app, which wakes up users by emitting a bacon scent from a cartridge while playing sizzling bacon sounds. The app is real, but only a lucky few will have the chance to obtain it — among those who enter to win online through April 4, just 4,700 will be selected.
The epic potential of being awakened by the smell of bacon is illustrated in a hilariously bizarre video. A side effect of using the app will likely be a strange desire to eat bacon every morning, which is surely Oscar Meyer's goal.

This isn't the fist time the power of scent has been used on smartphones, either. Scentee, a Japanese company, allows users to communicate with friends by scent. If you both have the device, instead of just receiving an image of your friend's vacation or delicious meal, you can enjoy scents related to what they're experiencing.
Scentee hopes to partner with restaurants to promote their tasty options, according to the Wall Street Journal. It currently offers around 100 scents, which include smells like rosemary, roses and gunpowder.
"The iPod made music portable," CEO Koki Tsubouchi told NPR. "We want to do that for scent."
