BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) -- A blind Utah laywer has been appointed by President Bush to the U.S. Access Board.
The four-year appointment will give Bountiful's Ron Gardner a national pulpit to help people with disabilities discover ways they can contribute to society and improve their lives.
The 56-year-old Gardner was told he could never go to college because he was blind. He proved his doubters wrong when he graduated from Brigham Young University's law school in 1978.
He was a senior trial attorney for the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service and special assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Utah, and taught business law at BYU for 14 years.
He also skis on both snow and water, hikes and scuba dives.
