Dancers, singers and actors who attended Orem High School over the last decade have spent the week putting together a showcase of their talents.
The reason: their theater teacher, Syd Riggs, who passed away five years ago.
"The greatest legacy that Syd left for those who have known her, have know of her or have simply been touched vicariously through those who did, was her passion for ‘telling the story' in whatever medium you choose, be it theater, music, poetry, education or the way you live your life," reads a tribute to Riggs on the showcase website.
"It's a really rewarding opportunity to sit and meet with these very talented people and rub shoulders with them and remember why we really do this performing thing that we love so much," said performer Amanda Crabb.
The group has carried on Riggs' love of the arts through a scholarship for high school seniors hoping to pursue the arts on a college level. Money from the annual showcase funds the scholarship.
"This gives me the opportunity to do something that I couldn't do by myself," said performer Julie Olsen.
The showcase will take place Saturday night at Orem High School.
