Utah-Grown Christmas Trees by Michael Kuhns, Extension Forestry Specialist

Buying a fresh-cut Christmas tree is a fun way to ring-in the holidays, but most live Christmas trees in Utah are brought in from other states. Here are some ideas on where to get freshly cut Utah-grown Christmas trees.

Christmas tree farmLand Management Agencies - Christmas tree permits (both for individual trees and for commercial cutters) sometimes are available from Utah's land management agencies. Call your local office of an agency for the best information. Agencies who sometimes have trees availablE are the USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands.

Tree Lots - You will occasionally come upon tree lots selling pre-cut trees that have been harvested live from Utah's forests. This can be a very good way to get a really fresh tree. Tree species you will find on such lots include pinyon pine, subalpine fir, Douglas-fir, and lodgepole pine.

Choose-and-cut Trees - Utah has relatively few businesses that sell Christmas trees that are grown locally. Listed below are several that we know of. Listing, of course, does not mean we endorse any particular grower. If you grow trees or sell locally-grown trees and want to be added to our list, e-mail your information to us.
