Gene Kennedy Reporting Swirling winds damaged backyards in the northern Utah town of Mendon. One resident said, "At first I thought it was a tornado. I saw the wind swirl around."

It's hard to believe we're waking up to high winds and the potential of snow one day after Easter.

Today there is a high wind warning for I-80 West in Tooele County. When those winds hit Mendon yesterday, they sent large pieces of debris flying through the air.

Those winds were strong enough to topple a trailer and rip fences apart. One witness told us the winds came out of the east-- two strong gusts, strong enough that he and his family took cover.

Darrell Rasmussen / Resident: "I told the kids to get in the basement. I thought for sure it felt like a tornado when me and my wife both saw the wind swirling around and things flying through the backyard."

Darrell Rasmussen / Resident: "Plywood, shingles, playground equipment, everything."

Rasmussen says he watched the wind carry away a barn roof, the animals inside he says ran for their lives.

Turns out it was not a tornado, according to the Weather Service.

We also saw some notable damage in Salt Lake City. A tree was blown over, right into one of our producer's decks. It's ruined, along with some backyards in Mendon.

But the good news is no one got hurt.

Today's weather is expected to bring a mix of wind and snow.
